Yet again I find myself with the opportunity to work with another great Kansas City startup, Blackbird Design Studio. As with my previous post about Oddity Cycles, I really like working and engaging with startups. These interactions always inspire and motivate me in my own business.
This project really kicked-off about a year earlier when I heard Erika & Trevor had left their previous firm to start Blackbird Design Studio. I immediately reached out to Erika to meet for coffee and hear all about their plans. As with all startups, they had a long list of to-dos which would eventually include a website and the need for corporate lifestyle photography. Several months passed and they finally reached out and were ready to begin work on capturing images of their staff and their new space. With the luxury of knowing both Erika and Trevor it was an easy conversation to determine that the approach to the images would be simple, clean and FUN! This aligns perfectly with their outlook on their profession…
Our profession is hard…but not really. We choose to make it easy, loose and fun. Our clients enjoy being with us, and we love working as hard as we can to help them meet and exceed their goals. We have a genuine passion for discovery, a passion for what is next, and for what is about to come out of our minds and pencils. We are an open book, one filled with authentic innovation…and SMIG.
You will have to visit their page if you want to learn what SMIG is all about.
In an effort to keep it simple I suggested we shoot casual, environmental portraits in their office to minimize the disruption to their staffs time and for the lifestyle images to take place on the same day. In the end, we captured several great images including a fun portrait of Erika and Trevor that truly represents their dynamic – as well as an image of their space that serves as the homepage for their website. www.blkbrd.net
