I had a VISION!

As Mike & I sat in the garage last night drinking a glass of scotch and smoking a cigar I couldn’t help but have a smile on my face.

Why?

Most might think that it is because I recently adopted our second son from Russia and I am now the father of two AMAZING boys.  That in fact is what puts a smile on my face EVERYDAY!

However, tonight marks the completion of a three year project. Without going into too much detail it all began with me formulating a harebrained idea that included me trading in my 2000 4Runner for a Sequoia and in addition purchasing a piece of shit $400 1985 4Runner that I would build into a dedicated “trail rig”.  This would also require the purchase of a trailer at some-point down the road as well.  Now, how do I pitch this to the wife…hmmm

It just so happens that the stars were in alignment…she had just recently convinced me that she should buy a piece of shit house and rehab it to then sell.  But will she take that into consideration when I unveil my masterplan? Too much time has passed for me to recall the details of how the conversation went down, but I must have put on my best marketing hat and promised lots of things CUZ she said she would support this idea.

Little did I know it would take me THREE years to complete the project – in my mind I thought it would take 12-months tops. I think the fact that I attempted this shocked a few people because I have never really worked on my vehicles in the past.  It wasn’t too long ago that I was nervous about changing the oil on one of our cars.  However with the support of friends, the internet and of course my wife I can now say I know how too…

-Rebuild axles
-Rebuild transfer cases
-Swap a 5-speed transmission in for a automatic transmission
-Weld
-Replace fuel pumps
-Do body work
-and much much more!

Here it is today!

And just what did it look like when we pushed it into the garage 3-years ago…
